The controversial image emerged shortly after Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV, a leader who has openly opposed U.S. and Israeli actions in Iran. In a separate message, the president accused the pope of being “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.” When asked about the image, Trump claimed it represented him as a “doctor,” saying he believed the scene showed him aiding a patient. “It’s supposed to be as a doctor making people better,” he remarked. “And I do make people better. I make people a lot better,” he added, defending his role as a healer.

Sean Feucht, a Christian activist organizing faith-based events for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, called for immediate removal, stating, “There’s no context where this is acceptable.” Riley Gaines, a prominent conservative voice, echoed the sentiment, asserting, “God shall not be mocked.” Faith-focused media also weighed in, with David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network writing, “This goes too far.
