Qatar has committed to sustaining its mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran as diplomatic channels remain open following recent hostilities. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari shared this pledge during Thursday's panel at the Chatham House London Conference, where Middle Eastern geopolitical shifts took center stage.
Qatar's Diplomatic Commitment Deepens
Speaking at a session titled "The New Geopolitics of the Middle East," Al Ansari stressed that Doha will continue supporting dialogue despite the conflict's direct effects on the Gulf state. He conveyed that Qatar believes military action alone cannot achieve lasting peace, positioning diplomacy as the essential route to de-escalation and regional security.
"The region is facing not a passing crisis, but rather an extension of accumulated cycles of escalation," Al Ansari declared, highlighting the depth of current instability.
Following the official's comments, Qatar's Foreign Ministry issued a statement characterizing the situation as more than momentary disruption. Al Ansari portrayed it as a continuation of recurring escalation patterns creating unprecedented challenges for stability across the region.
The Qatari representative emphasized the need to strengthen diplomatic frameworks and develop structures for long-term political solutions. These initiatives, he explained, would encourage economic collaboration and rebuild trust among regional partners whose relationships have deteriorated.
According to Al Ansari, achieving sustainable peace requires respecting national sovereignty, improving coordinated responses, and prioritizing diplomatic tools for managing crises and ensuring future stability.
Israel-Lebanon Operations Continue
Israel's military reported Friday that it conducted more than twenty operations in Lebanon during the past week. These strikes were framed as responses to what Israeli authorities called "Hezbollah ceasefire violations."
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that ground forces remained stationed in the security zone covering southern Lebanon. This territory has been under Israeli control for weeks, with the goal of eliminating threats aimed at the State of Israel.
"As part of the activity, two underground routes were destroyed in the village of Majdal Zone. In addition, the Air Force and the forces carried out more than 20 attacks following Hezbollah ceasefire violations and killed a number of terrorists who were a threat to the forces," the IDF explained.
The ongoing military exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah, despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement, have become a major hurdle in wider U.S.-Iran peace discussions.
The memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June between President Trump and Iran's leader requires an immediate halt to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon. Tehran has argued that Israel's continued military presence in the neighboring country breaches this agreement.
Both Israel and Hezbollah have maintained attacks, albeit at lower levels, consistently presenting their operations as countermeasures against the other side's supposed violations.
Fishing Industry Suffers Coastal Strikes
At least thirty fishing boats sustained damage or were destroyed when two American projectiles hit the Panj-Pelleh fishing pier in Bandar Abbas. The event took place during U.S. strikes on Iran's coastline on July 8 and 9 in the southern Hormozgan Province.
A representative from the Posht-e Shahr Fishermen's Cooperative informed state media that each impacted vessel was worth approximately $11,000. The total financial toll on the local fishing sector has been considerable.
Furthermore, Iran's IRNA news agency reported that U.S. strikes also targeted the Benoud fishing pier in Asaluyeh, situated in neighboring Bushehr Province near the Strait of Hormuz. The bombardment set fire to fishing boats belonging to local residents.
President Trump had previously stated that American forces would concentrate on small vessels used by Iranian personnel to place sea mines within the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters.
Maritime Security Concerns Persist
The U.S. military's Central Command stated that earlier strikes targeted approximately 170 Iranian installations. These included air defense systems, facilities storing drones and missiles, naval assets, and logistical infrastructure along Iran's coastline.
The U.S. Navy continues monitoring maritime activities as tensions remain elevated in the region, with both sides maintaining their positions while diplomatic efforts work to prevent further escalation.
