FBI Dismisses Two Analysts Over Fulton County Election Investigation Concerns

FBI fires 2 analysts who raised - According to multiple sources familiar with the situation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation terminated two of its analysts last week following their expressions of concern regarding the probe into 2020 election outcomes in Fulton County, Georgia. These dismissed employees reportedly believed the investigation lacked sufficient evidentiary support and seemed driven by political considerations rather than purely factual analysis.

Background of the Investigation

The dismissals come after the FBI undertook extensive efforts to examine thousands of documents acquired earlier in the year. Following the execution of a search warrant, investigators confiscated "all physical ballots" from the 2020 election cycle, along with recording tapes from vote-counting equipment, digital ballot images, and comprehensive voter registration lists. To manage this massive undertaking, the bureau directed 260 analysts to assist in sorting through the ballots and associated voting information.

A representative for the FBI communicated to CBS News regarding the situation:

"The FBI will always investigate credible allegations of matters related to federal elections."

The spokesperson further emphasized organizational expectations:

"Every employee at this FBI is expected to uphold our mission and adhere to our standards - any deviation will not be tolerated."

Analyst Responsibilities and Concerns

As previously reported by CBS News, the FBI analysts confront a July 17 deadline to finalize their assignments. Individuals with knowledge of the matter informed the news organization that each analyst must examine several hundred entries contained within an extensive spreadsheet. This spreadsheet encompasses various data points including voter names, residential addresses, and identification numbers.

According to sources, analysts receive instructions to verify information against Accurint, a commercial database, while flagging any inconsistencies they discover. This particular database compiles public records encompassing names, addresses, telephone numbers, and supplementary information such as criminal backgrounds. Despite these efforts, uncertainty remains regarding the FBI's intended use of the compiled information once the review concludes.

The assignment has generated considerable apprehension among some observers. Sources indicated concerns that Accurint's information might not consistently reflect current data, and that identified discrepancies might not automatically signify improper conduct. Additionally, questions persist concerning how the Justice Department could pursue charges, given that the probable five-year statute of limitations would have concluded by late 2025 or early 2026.

Political Implications and Next Steps

CBS News has contacted Accurint's parent corporation requesting a statement on the matter. Some observers worry that the Trump administration might leverage the review findings to assert that 2020 election outcomes were incorrect. Such a development could amplify skepticism regarding electoral integrity before midterm elections or potentially be utilized to encourage Republican lawmakers to enact the SAVE Act. This legislation would mandate that Americans present proof of citizenship in person when registering to vote.

Officials in Fulton County have attempted to halt the investigation, which Kurt Olsen, a lawyer associated with the Stop the Steal Movement, originally referred to the FBI. Olsen subsequently received court sanctions while representing Kari Lake during her effort to reverse her 2022 Arizona election defeat. He currently serves the Justice Department and has been assigned to Miami to help examine what has been termed a "grand conspiracy" involving whether officials from the Obama and Biden administrations conspired to prevent President Trump from remaining in office through various investigations, intelligence evaluations, and legal prosecutions.

In May, a judge rejected Fulton County's petition to retrieve the confiscated ballots. Nevertheless, the county achieved a recent triumph when a judge earlier this month invalidated a grand jury subpoena that had sought the names and personal contact details of every individual employed during the 2020 election within the county.
