‘My daughter, 14, was groomed after meeting man on Roblox’

Parent Alarms Over Roblox Grooming Case

A 14-year-old girl’s mother has raised concerns about the safety of Roblox after her daughter was manipulated into sharing intimate content with a man she met on the platform. Carlo Tritta, now 19, from Eastleigh, Hampshire, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison for his actions. The case highlights how online gaming spaces can become venues for predatory behavior.

The Targeted Relationship

Tritta, 18 at the time, initially connected with the teenager in September 2024. He built a romantic relationship with her, convincing her to move their conversations off the platform to private messaging apps. The mother described the process of uncovering the abuse as both shocking and distressing.

“I said ‘Oh, who’s that?’ and she was crying, begging me not to look at her phone. I just knew then it wasn’t her, and I had to see what was on there. That’s where it all started to unravel—there were a lot of sexual images, videos, really bad ones.”

Exploitation and Control

The victim’s mother revealed that Tritta had access to her daughter’s social media accounts and personal details. He monitored her interactions, knew her friends and daily routines, and even controlled her online activities. “She was trapped in something she didn’t think she could get out of,” the mother explained.

After the abuse was discovered, Tritta was arrested and released on bail with strict conditions. However, he violated these rules by traveling 200 miles from Hampshire to the victim’s home. He disabled her doorbell camera and entered the house, where he discussed nightmares with the family while they were writing Christmas cards and watching TV.

Roblox’s Response

Roblox, which boasts over 144 million daily active users, stated it was “saddened to hear of this troubling case” and “committed to building safeguards” to prevent such incidents. The platform requires age checks for users to ensure communication is limited to peers or known contacts. It also has policies to block harmful content and restrict messaging for younger users.

“It’s dangerous—needs to be watched,” the mother added. “It’s a kids’ game, but adults are getting on there to groom children. They need to do something about it. It should just be for kids. Not for adults to go on and exploit.”

Aftermath and Impact

The victim, now 14, reported feeling suicidal and struggling with sleep due to the emotional toll of the situation. Tritta admitted to creating indecent images, engaging in sexual communications, and causing a child aged 13-15 to view explicit content. He also faced charges of intimidating a witness and damaging property.

The mother emphasized the need for stricter protections on social media platforms, urging parents to remain vigilant. “Your brain can’t take in what you’re seeing when it’s your own child,” she said, describing the emotional devastation of the discovery.

Roblox’s safety systems aim to limit user-to-user image sharing and block harmful interactions, but the case underscores the challenges of preventing online grooming in virtual spaces. The mother hopes her story will raise awareness about the risks of such platforms and prompt stronger measures to safeguard young users.
