Child dies in dog attack, police say
A child lost their life in what appears to be a dog-related incident, according to police. Officers were called to Hardale Grove, in Dormanstown, Redcar, around 1:30 PM BST after receiving reports of a child in distress. Upon arrival, the child was found deceased, and Cleveland Police indicated the cause of death was likely a dog bite.
The police force stated that one dog was put down on the street while another at the residence was taken into custody. The BBC has sought information from police regarding the child’s age and the breeds of the involved dogs. The North East Ambulance Service deployed three teams, with one individual transported to the hospital for additional care.
“Understandably this is a distressing and tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child’s family,” Harrison added. “I would encourage anyone who has concerns or information to please speak to an officer.”
Redcar and Cleveland’s district commander, Emily Harrison, confirmed that officers were still present at the location and an investigation was underway. The incident has sparked calls for further details, with the BBC requesting clarification on the child’s age and the dogs’ breeds. Follow BBC Tees on X, Facebook, Nextdoor and Instagram.
