Bill Gates Set to Appear Before US Congress in Epstein Inquiry

Jeffrey Epstein’s legal troubles have led to the inclusion of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in congressional hearings, according to lawmakers. Gates is scheduled to provide testimony on June 10, focusing on his communications with the convicted sex offender. This marks the latest prominent figure to contribute to the House Oversight Committee’s probe into Epstein’s alleged misconduct.

Testimony Details

A representative for Gates told the BBC that the philanthropist is “eager to address the committee’s inquiries to assist their significant work.” While Gates has not faced direct accusations from Epstein’s victims, his connection to the financier is detailed in over three million documents made public by the Justice Department earlier this year. These materials are part of a broader release mandated by legislation signed by former President Donald Trump in November, which requires the department to disclose all records from Epstein’s investigation.

Document Release and Legislative Context

The Justice Department has made millions of documents available, yet many remain confidential. Trump’s law, passed by Congress, triggered the disclosure of Gates’ involvement, which was revealed through his interactions with Epstein. Gates addressed these ties during a meeting with his foundation’s staff, where he “accepted responsibility for his actions,” as noted by the Gates Foundation in a statement.

Other Witnesses

The hearing follows recent testimony from other notable figures, including former President Bill Clinton and his spouse, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who appeared before the committee in February. Upcoming weeks will see Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and former Attorney General Pam Bondi also offering their perspectives in the ongoing investigation.

“Bill spoke candidly, addressing several questions in detail,” the Gates Foundation added. The philanthropist later clarified to the BBC that he had never attended gatherings with Epstein and maintained no role in the illegal activities linked to the financier. “Although Mr. Gates acknowledges meeting Epstein was a significant misstep, he firmly denies any wrongdoing tied to the financier’s crimes,” the statement emphasized.
