General Mills Recalled Nearly 736 000 Pillsbury Bread Rolls Over Glass Risk

General Mills recalled nearly 736 000 Pillsbury bread rolls following a safety alert issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The massive recall stems from potential glass contamination found within frozen dough products sold at Walmart in-store bakeries across the United States. This voluntary action affects two specific Pillsbury products that are baked onsite at retail locations rather than shipped as finished goods.

Scope of the Recall

The recall encompasses 3,080 cases of Pillsbury Bread Rolls "Hard Roll Dough," with each case containing 180 individual rolls, totaling 554,400 units. Additionally, 1,260 cases of Pillsbury Bread Rolls "Kaiser Roll Dough" are included, each holding 144 rolls for a combined total of 181,440 pieces. Together, these quantities account for the approximately 736,000 rolls affected by this safety measure.

According to the official notice, the bread rolls were pulled from shelves due to "potential foreign material (glass)." The contamination risk prompted General Mills to take immediate action to protect consumers and maintain trust in their products.

Geographic Distribution and Timeline

General Mills distributed the affected cases of frozen bread rolls across multiple states including Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. The company initiated the recall on June 19, acting swiftly once the potential issue was identified.

"Food safety is our top priority at General Mills," a General Mills spokesperson said in an email to CBS News. "Out of an abundance of caution, in mid-June, we issued a voluntary recall of two frozen dough products baked onsite and sold exclusively at Walmart in-store bakeries in the United States. This voluntary recall is limited in scope, highly contained and all potential impacted product has been removed."

The bread rolls are primarily marketed to businesses rather than to individual consumers, according to a description on General Mills' website. These products are designed for easy back-of-house preparation and low labor requirements, making them popular choices for commercial bakery operations.

Product Details and Identification

Consumers and retailers can identify the affected products using specific recall numbers and expiration dates. The Pillsbury Bread Rolls "Hard Roll Dough" carry recall number H-1154-2026 with a "better if used by" date of October 12, 2026. Each case contains 180 units weighing 2.25 ounces each. The Pillsbury Bread Rolls "Kaiser Roll Dough" are identified by recall number H-1155-2026 and have a "better if used by" date of October 13, 2026, with 144 units per case at 2.5 ounces each.

This extensive portfolio demonstrates the company's significant presence in the food industry and its commitment to maintaining quality standards across all product lines.
