Eamonn Holmes recovering in hospital after stroke

Eamonn Holmes Hospitalized Following Stroke, Reports GB News

GB News has confirmed that veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after suffering a stroke. The channel stated that Holmes was “taken ill last week” and that “it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.” His condition is described as stable, with the organization noting that he is “responding well to treatment.” Colleagues at GB News have shared their support, expressing optimism for his recovery.

A Career Spanning Decades

Known for his long-standing presence in television, Holmes has held numerous roles across various networks. He initially presented on UTV’s Good Evening Ulster before transitioning to GMTV, which launched in January 1993. His tenure with GMTV continued until 2005. Later, he co-hosted Sky News’s Sunrise program and, more recently, partnered with Ruth Langsford on ITV’s This Morning, a role he assumed after their marriage in 2010. In 2024, the couple announced their decision to end the marriage and proceed with divorce.

“Eamonn is a cherished figure within the GB News family,” said CEO Angelos Frangopoulos. “His dedication and talent have left a lasting impact on our team and viewers.”

Before joining GB News in 2022, Holmes had already navigated several health challenges, including spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and difficulties with mobility. He frequently used a mobility scooter during his career, reflecting his ongoing efforts to manage these issues. Despite these hurdles, Holmes remained a prominent figure in broadcasting, even being honored with an OBE for his contributions to the field in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List.

Understanding the Stroke

A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is disrupted, according to NHS guidance. Common symptoms include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech impairments. Immediate medical attention is critical in such cases. While specifics about Holmes’s stroke remain undisclosed, his current recovery is being closely monitored.

In the meantime, Alex Armstrong, another GB News presenter, will temporarily take over Holmes’s duties. The channel has not provided further details on the timeline for his return to the air.
