Iranian Defense Chief Killed in Airstrike After Warning to Trump
An Iranian official who had previously issued a stark warning to Donald Trump about the potential consequences of his policies was killed in a recent airstrike. The incident marked a significant blow to Iran’s leadership, with the country’s Defense Ministry confirming the death of Ali Larijani, the Supreme National Security Council Secretary.
The Israeli Defense Forces stated they had targeted Larijani, alongside a separate operation that resulted in the demise of the Basji paramilitary force’s commander. This dual strike underscored the strategic importance of both figures within Iran’s political and military framework.
“The nation of Iran is not afraid of your empty threats. Even those bigger than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Watch yourselves, or you might be eliminated!”
Larijani played a pivotal role in the interim leadership council, which managed Iran’s transition of power as it decided the successor to Ali Khamenei. The Basji force, an all-volunteer paramilitary group under the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, has been instrumental in quelling domestic uprisings and maintaining control within the Islamic Republic.
General Gholam Reza Soleimani, a key figure in the Revolutionary Guards, was reportedly killed in an airstrike on Monday. However, Iran did not confirm his death immediately. The Israeli military described Basji forces as a vital element of the regime’s armed structure, citing their role in violently suppressing protests, particularly during recent waves of unrest.
Soleimani, born in 1965, has faced sanctions from the US Treasury, the European Union, and other nations for his involvement in the suppression of dissent. His actions with the Basji organization have drawn international condemnation over the years.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the eldest son of the former Ayatollah, was named Soleimani’s successor last week. Yet, he was gravely injured in a US airstrike and was allegedly transported to Russia for urgent medical treatment. The situation took a dramatic turn when he was taken from a bunker strike that claimed his family members and flown to Moscow aboard a military jet.
Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported that the new Ayatollah had been secretly removed from the attack and rushed to a top-secret operation at one of Vladimir Putin’s presidential palaces. The details of his injuries varied, with reports ranging from minor cuts to severe trauma, including the possibility of losing a leg or being placed in a coma.
Iran later asserted that the new Ayatollah was alive, contradicting US claims. Mojtaba Khamenei’s survival, though uncertain, has fueled demands for retaliation against the United States and its allies, as he recently issued a bloodthirsty statement calling for vengeance.
