British Airways suspending flights to war-torn Middle East country until later this year
Airlines adjust schedules amid regional tensions
British Airways has halted flights to multiple Middle Eastern destinations due to escalating conflict involving Iran. The airline confirmed today that services to and from Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, and Tel Aviv are suspended this month.
Announcing the change, the carrier cited ‘persistent uncertainty’ and ‘airspace instability’ as the primary factors behind the reduced flight schedule. This comes amid a broader disruption in air travel across the region, with countries closing critical corridors to respond to the US and Israeli strike on Iran.
“We are continuously monitoring the situation and engaging with customers to present a variety of travel alternatives,” the statement emphasized. It also noted that the airline is pausing regular rescue flights from Muscat after Thursday, attributing the decision to diminished demand.
Scams alert: Customers urged to verify updates
British Airways warned passengers of impersonators mimicking the airline’s communications, seeking personal and payment details. Users reported being overwhelmed by fake customer service accounts on social media platforms, with some even arranging non-existent rescue operations.
One individual shared screenshots of interactions with fraudulent Qatar Airways representatives, showcasing how scammers exploited the situation. The airline advised customers to contact them directly via verified channels, asking for names, emails, mobile numbers, and home addresses to confirm their status.
Impact on regional air traffic
Major airlines have either canceled thousands of flights or diverted them to avoid affected zones, reflecting the scale of the disruption. Middle Eastern airports, which act as vital hubs for international travelers, now face significant operational changes as the conflict continues to unfold.
