‘I brushed it off, but that nagging sense of dread in my stomach just kept growing. It wasn’t just about the phone – it was about everything,’ Anna recalls.
The Revelation
Anna’s suspicions peaked when she discovered a recurring entry in James’s work diary. The name ‘John’ appeared every couple of weeks, each time erasing an entire day from the schedule. This was unusual for his type of work, prompting her to dig deeper.
On one of those mornings, she found a train ticket in his pocket matching the date of the mysterious appointment. The investigator’s report that followed confirmed her worst fears.
‘They told me James had arrived at the studio, turned on the lights, and opened the blinds. Then he locked up, exited through the back gate, and headed for the train station,’ the PI explained.
After arriving at the station, James bought a greetings card and baby toys, then spent time writing in the card before meeting a woman and a newborn at a restaurant. The photos of him holding the baby were enough to confirm the truth.
‘I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. The way he looked at the baby, the way he held it – it was all too clear. My heart dropped,’ Anna remembers.
The Aftermath
Anna confronted James, demanding answers about his late-night outings and secrecy. He insisted he wasn’t the cheating type, but she presented the evidence, forcing him to break down.
‘I told him straight out: “I think you’re cheating on me. There’s more to why you’re disappearing at night.” I showed him the photos, and that’s when he finally admitted it was his baby,’ Anna says.
James confessed to an affair that had lasted a year, resulting in an unplanned pregnancy. The revelation shattered their family, but Anna felt a mix of relief and devastation. She packed his belongings and tossed them out, declaring he would leave.
‘I was angry – I still am. You can never forget how someone betrays your family. I told the kids daddy was going on a holiday, and after I calmed down, he returned for a short time to help us adjust to our new separate lives,’ Anna explains.
